How to choose
a personal trainer
In los Angeles
Start with what you actually want.
Fat loss, getting stronger, moving without pain, and training for a sport are different jobs, and the right coach and format depend on which one you are hiring for.
A trainer who is great for a bodybuilder may be the wrong fit for a 50-year-old with a cranky lower back.
Then pick a format
One-on-one is the most attention and the highest cost.
Group fitness is one workout for the whole room, low cost, high energy, no personalization.
Semi-Private / Small Group Personal Training sits between them: you train on your own program, in a small group, with a coach.
It gives you the plan and the coaching of one-on-one at a lower price.
Ask THESE Three Questions
Before You Sign Anything:
-
Do you start with an assessment or do I start working out on day one?
-
Is the program built for me, or is it the same session everyone else is doing?
-
What does it actually cost? Is there an initiation fee? Are there any additional fees? What’s your cancellation policy? Do you allow for membership holds?

A few things worth avoiding
A plan with no assessment behind it is a guess.
A month-to-month churn of trainers means no one owns your progress.
And a gym who promises a specific result in a specific number of weeks is more focused on hitting their monthly sales quota than helping you long term.
Where Sessions PERSONAL TRAINING fits
We run semi-private and one-on-one training in Mar Vista and Santa Monica.
Semi-private is what most members choose. Everyone starts with an assessment (The Baseline Session), and every program is built for the individual, not a one-size-fits-all workout of the day.
Our pricing is on the site, one flat rate per plan.
If that sounds like what you want, The Baseline Session is free.
